Shopify Policy Change FAQ

Shopify integration support in Tradevine ends on 30 June 2023. If you want to keep using Shopify with Tradevine, you will need to create your own Shopify custom app. Shopify changed their app store policies and the types of applications they support – affecting Tradevine and third-party systems. This change means we can’t continue to support this integration.

What are Shopify’s policy changes?

Shopify has changed their policy on what types of apps can be built for their platform. There are now only two types of supported apps:

  • Public apps: These live in the Shopify App Store and can be installed by any seller.
  • Custom apps: These are custom built specifically for individual sellers.

Shopify are deprecating private (unavailable to the public) and unpublished (available to the public, but not listed in the app store) apps and will be removing these at some point in 2023. 

The current Tradevine app is an unpublished app.

How does this create operational complexity for Tradevine?

To continue with the app we would need to make a lot of changes to comply with their app store policies. To make these changes we would need to significantly adjust the architecture of our application to support these changes.

Why aren’t you making Tradevine a public app?

Shopify functionality has only ever been available as a paid add-on for existing Tradevine customers. We never had any intention of making our app publicly available through the Shopify app store.

What is the process for creating a custom app?

You might need to recruit a third party developer or service to create your app. All the access you need is available through our Tradevine API. If you don’t have access to any developers, we can help you with this process, please get in touch with us by filling out this form.

This change makes Tradevine unusable for my purposes, what are my alternatives?

We are sorry that this is the case, If you would like to use Shopify with Trade Me you can do so by installing the Omnivore app from the Shopify app store. 

Note: you will not be able to use both Tradevine and Omnivore with the same Trade Me account.
